Mental Health Match has noticed an uptick of people seeking help for sexuality (different than sexual orientation). Our anonymous data shows that over 10% of people coming to Mental Health Match in the past 30 days have searched for help with sexuality. This is up 40% when compared to the average for all of the last year.
Within that group, about 1/3 are seeking help for sex or pornography addiction. Searches for this have increased since the pandemic, and we observed an increase in the first few months of the pandemic.
We aren’t sure what is behind these trends, but we wonder how many people seeking help for these issues are doing so from a place of shame or sigma around sexuality.
